| A second Beach Sweep event was held on Sunday, September 28th for Girl Scout Troop 1324 of Hammond. Although not all the girls could make the event, the girls, their Troop leader, Betsy Garrety, John & Catherine Eichhorn were able to clean up along the Tangipahoa River bank at HWY 22 in Ponchatoula. The hard work of these volunteers yielded an amazing 9.6 lbs of aluminum cans 9 lbs of clean aluminum 1 car tire 30 oil containers 1 phonograph 1 road sign 3 Daily Star newspaper boxes 540 lbs of household garbage |
| Due to Hurricane Gustave, the Beach Sweep in Tangipahoa Parish held two clean-ups and picnics, so that EMD's favorite litter removal helpers, Girl Scout Troop 1324 of Hammond, LA., could attend. Troop Leader, Betsy Garrety, had a tree fall on her home, which meant that the Troop could not attend the already planned event on Sept. 20th. The majority of discarded items for recycling were donated by Jerry & Stephanie Shedd, Marilyn Wright, Pauly Sherman and Patricia & David Starkey. Monies from the recycling of these items went toward picnic items for the Girl Scouts' clean-up day on September 28th. |
Thank you, Girl Scout Troop 1324 & all those who donated either their time or junk! This was our best year yet! |
